Chiefs, Rams players reportedly threaten to sit out Mexico City game over field conditions
Arguably the most anticipated NFL regular-season game this year is in danger of losing its star power.
According to a tweet from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, players from both the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams are considering sitting out this week’s Monday Night Football clash in Mexico City due to poor field conditions.
If Monday night’s game is played in Mexico City, a number of Rams and Chiefs players are now strongly considering not playing in that game on that messy surface, per sources. “It’s not fair to risk our health,” one prominent player said today.

Schefter reported earlier Tuesday that the game could be moved to Los Angeles or postponed because the Estadio Azteca field is “a mess” and could be unsafe for players. SB Nation’s official Twitter account posted an image of the field, which looks quite torn up.

The game should draw incredible ratings for ESPN, so it’s likely that the pressure from players will force the NFL to move the game. The Chiefs and Rams both lead their respective conferences at 9-1 and showcase high-flying offenses that make them second and third, respectively in scoring offense behind only the New Orleans Saints.
