Cole Cubelic is back with his weekly SEC takeaways following Week 10 on Saturday. And to keep things relatively brief, a lot happened.
Texas A&M fell to South Carolina, Vanderbilt earned its 6th win to clinch bowl eligibility and Ole Miss completely dominated Arkansas ahead of their season-deciding matchup against Georgia next week.
Cubelic was particularly impressed with the Rebels as well as South Carolina this weekend. He praised Williams-Brice Stadium for turning the tide against the Aggies while also shouting out the Gamecocks’ plan on offense.
Kentucky earned Cubelic’s attention too. The Wildcats, down 8 starters, danced with Tennessee all night, but the Vols’ superior defense simply took over. Nico Iamaleava and the Vols started slow, but thanks to a pair of TDs by Dylan Sampson were able to earn the hard-fought win. Not to mention, Iamaleava probably had his best game of the season against a good Kentucky defense.
Here are the rest of Cubelic’s Week 10 takeaways:
AUBURN: Not winning the game seemed indicative of not winning enough 1 on 1’s. Routes, open field tacklers, pass rush reps. Not that there weren’t any. Just not near enough. Creativity early with plan. Gap scheme misdirection was nice. Max pro outlet slick. Just would go back to…

GEORGIA: Rivalry win. Strong finish. Sluggish early. Couple bad decisions by QB. Forcing the ball. Just need to get rid of it. Check downs need to get out. Could not get consistent movement in run game. Toss/crack variations went most of the day. 3 exceptional. TE use was nice.…

MISSISSIPPI STATE: Handled their business. Just needed a W! QB showed a ton of poise. Stood in there & took some big hits. Too many batted balls & defenders in his face. Legs helped. Good with ball fake near GL. You can see him growing. Like the pocket movement. OL didn’t pass of…

OLE MISS: Dominant win with historic implications. 2 & 11 all time days. Defense was great. 2 bullied inside. 95 & 51 ate up run. 15, 4, 1 got edge pressure. Kept most in front. 11 read things well. Was there before things developed. 13 TFL! They have 6 games with double digit…

TENNESSEE: Slow start but finished strong for a rivalry win. Didn’t think they took adv of what was presented early. Had lighter boxes & off coverage. Slide protection needs to get cleaned up. Maybe a bit stubborn. Kicking game let downs & fumble kept it close. Once the front…

VANDERBILT: Great win. Got the style fight they wanted & pit the submission hold on late. Physically showed up. Did not back down. Never panicked on the plan. Give the front lots of credit. They made TEX stunts look like they had never been seen before. 10 played hard. They…
