Alabama and Georgia are set to face off in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game for the 2nd time in 5 seasons.

The Crimson Tide, of course, were crowned champions 5 years ago as they defeated the Bulldogs 26-23 in overtime in Atlanta. They have won the last 7 meetings between the 2 programs, including the 2021 SEC Championship Game on Dec. 4. A victory for Alabama will clinch its 19th championship in program history, its 2nd straight, and its 4th in 7 seasons.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are seeking the program’s 1st title since 1980 and their 3rd overall. Their dynamic defense carried them to an undefeated record in the regular season before falling to the Tide in the conference championship over a month ago.

ESPN’s “College GameDay” crew of Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, David Pollack, Kirk Herbstreit, and Lee Corso were on hand at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to helm pregame coverage. Herbstreit is calling the game with Chris Fowler, meaning he didn’t make a selection.

While the fan vote came out 55 percent in favor of Alabama, both Howard and Pollack picked the Dawgs to win. That left it to Corso’s headgear pick, and he made it a clean sweep for the GameDay panel by picking Georgia as well.

Kickoff is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET on ESPN, with the network’s Megacast coverage airing across many of its networks.
