Deion Sanders told Undisputed this week that he received interest from other programs for their head coaching vacancies this offseason.

Sanders was asked about Keyshawn Johnson how many times his phone rang from another school this offseason. Sanders said the interest was there, but highlighted his love of Colorado and said he doesn’t plan on leaving any time soon.

“Couple times, a couple times,” Sanders said. “But I’m happy where I am. As you see, if I’m out there home shopping with my kids, that means I don’t plan on going anywhere. I got a kickstand down. I’m straight. I love this fan base. I love looking out the window right now, these snow-covered mountains, I love it. I’ve been snowmobiling the last two weekends.

“So we’re doing things that we would have never fathomed, man, and I’m happy about it. I love me some Colorado.”

Sanders did not not specify which programs reached out. Washington, Arizona, Texas A&M, Duke, Houston, Indiana, Michigan State and Syracuse were amongst the head coaching jobs that were filled this offseason.

Sanders also brought up details from a conversation he had with Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark about building something at Colorado.

“He told me this, but I took it after the 3rd time,” Sanders said. “‘I don’t inherit a legacy, I build it.’ OK? I’m not the kind of guy that’s going to run off to someone else’s school and inherit an already-winning team … No, I inherited some bull-junk (at Colorado) and I’m going to fix it.”

Sanders also commented on Colorado’s work in the transfer portal during this appearance with Johnson and Skip Bayless. Sanders said he’s please with the state of the roster as Colorado prepares for life in the Big 12.

“We’ve pretty much stepped up every level inside this building,” Sanders said. “And I’m happy and pleased. Like when I go downstairs to work out with the guys … I love what I see. I love the competitive nature. I love the leadership that’s being taken at every position. And I love what these guys want and how they’re going about getting it.”

Colorado will be looking to get back to bowl eligibility in 2024.
