The TCU coaching search has reportedly moved on from Deion Sanders to focus on more experienced candidates, but the Jackson State head coach said Tuesday the Horned Frogs aren’t the only FBS job interested in his services.

According to FootballScoop, Sanders could become a “person of interest” for subsequent Power 5 head coaching opportunities as the coaching carousel continues to spin up near season’s end. TCU announced at the end of October that it had parted ways with Gary Patterson as its head coach and the Virginia Tech job opened Tuesday. In total, there are 9 current FBS openings.

Sanders, speaking on the Southwestern Conference’s weekly head coaches’ zoom call, hinted that other programs are intrigued by the young head coach.

“Well, TCU is not the only one interested in my services,” Sanders emphasized. “(Jackson State AD) Ashley Robinson is interested in my services and finishing out what I completed.

“Never believe rumors, especially when I’ve been in the hospital dern-near a month. Never just go out there and believe what you hear. But trust me, TCU and several others are not the only ones interested in what we do here at Jackson State. They’re trying to figure out the formula. There ain’t no formula, man; it’s loving on these kids, challenging these kids, holding these kids accountable. Making sure they maintain themselves to be smart, tough, fast, and disciplined. That’s the secret. Not everyone has this recipe.”

Sanders was hired in 2020 to be the head coach at FCS-level Jackson State. At the time, it was his 1st job on a college football coaching staff. Previously, the NFL Hall of Famer was an assistant for a high school program in Texas.

Jackson State is 9-1 on its season and plays Alcorn State at home on Saturday.
