Urban Meyer isn’t the only Big 10 coach that isn’t with his team three weeks before the season.

On Saturday, Maryland placed coach DJ Durkin on leave, effective immediately, as the school conducts an investigation into the coaching practices within the program. An ESPN report detailed the “toxic culture” that occurs with the Terrapins’ program.

Maryland athletic director Damon Evans issued a statement announcing the decision, stating that he is “extremely concerned by the allegations of unacceptable behaviors by members of our football staff detailed in recent media reports.”

Former LSU offensive coordinator Matt Canada, who is now the offensive coordinator for the Terps, will serve as interim coach in Durkin’s absence.

The report on Maryland’s program came after the death of former Terrapins player Jordan McNair, who died of heatstroke after showing signs of extreme exhaustion when he was hospitalized during a practice in May. He died two weeks later.

Durkin is now in a similar position to Meyer, who is on leave while Ohio State investigates the allegations that Meyer knew a former assistant had been accused of domestic violence against his ex-wife in 2015.
