When it comes to the upcoming release of the new EA Sports College Football video game, we have some good news and we have some bad news.

The good news is the game is still on track to be released as EA Sports is already working to secure the necessary individual rights to produce the game. (Most schools are members of the collegiate trademark licensing company, often referred to as CLC, while others are not and have to individual agree to participate in the game.)

The bad news?

It’s likely going to be some time before the game hits the shelves.

That’s EA Sports plan, anyway, as Matt Brown of Extra Points recently shared an internal memo from the video game company that notes the new college football game is scheduled to be released in July of 2023.

That’s a long wait for a game many of us are dying to get our hands on but it’s a short wait when you consider it’s been nearly seven years since the latest edition of the game was released back in the summer of 2013.

One positive when it comes to this scheduled release date is it will allow EA Sports and the NCAA additional time to work on Name, Image and Likeness issues. Notre Dame and Northwestern have already come out and said they don’t plan on participating in the game until the NIL issue is dealt with by the NCAA.

Providing extra time to iron out those issues gives us all a better shot of having a game that features every college football program at the FBS level.
