ESPN's FPI predicts the winner of Arkansas-Auburn matchup
ESPN’s Football Power Index gave its prediction for who will win the SEC opener for both Arkansas and Auburn, giving the Tigers a 58.9% chance to win in Auburn on Saturday afternoon.
The Razorbacks bounced back from the disappointing loss to Oklahoma State two weeks ago as they got a 37-27 comeback victory against UAB. Auburn was also able to get back in the win column in Week 3, as the Tigers got a 45-19 victory against New Mexico.
Arkansas was in a dogfight for much of that game against UAB, but the rushing attack of the Razorbacks proved to be the difference. Led by running back Ja’Quinden Jackson’s 147 yards, the Razorbacks ran the ball 38 times for 266 yards. Quarterback Taylen Green also rushed for 96 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Coach Huge Freeze made a quarterback change for Auburn, as he decided to go with freshman Hank Brown instead of Payton Thorne. Making his first career start, Brown threw for 235 yards and 4 touchdowns. He originally committed to playing with Freeze at Liberty, but followed him to Auburn.
This is a big game for both teams, as they need to get off to a fast start in the SEC. After this game, both teams will have 3 consecutive games against top 25 teams.
The Razorbacks and Tigers are set to kick off at 3:30 ET at Auburn, with the game being televised by ESPN.
Arkansas has trouble when they are favored. I’ve watched them since 1969 and it’s always been that way. Since they aren’t favored, I expect them to win because Auburn is not strong at quarterback.
If our d-line doesn’t start getting pressure our secondary is a weak spot especially in the middle of the field at the nickel
Inexplicably Auburn is favored. This is just ESPN FPI. Auburn(-3.5) when I looked.
Hogs aren’t exactly crushing it this year either. Played well for a half against Okie St, dominated them statistically, but found a way to lose. Auburn has had Arkansas’ number for the last decade (well, who hasn’t).
I think any lthing within 5 is a toss up. I don’t know if it’s still the case, but teams used to get 3-4 points for being at home. If true then in a neutral site it’s a Pick’Em. I love my Hogs, but I think I’d lay the points & take Auburn by 7. Hope I’m wrong.
Also, we don’t even know what we have at QB, so to say not strong is incorrect. It’s a complete mystery. Our defense, on the other hand, is absolutely abysmal. Y’all should move the ball regularly in the air.
