Legendary actor Burt Reynolds passed away on Thursday at the age of 82, leaving behind an illustrious legacy. Not only as a movie star, but also as a football player at Florida State from 1954-1957. Reynolds is a member of the Florida State Hall of Fame, and it is widely known that in his college days, he was teammates with College GameDay analyst Lee Corso.

Corso and Reynolds were also roommates, and they kept a close friendship after their college days. As the world mourned the loss of Reynolds on Thursday, Corso chimed in with a sincere statement sent to Associated Press College Football writer Ralph Russo.

“Burt was a life-long friend, who was extremely close to me for the last 64 years” said Corso, “We have always stayed in touch, through the good and the bad times of our lives, talking about once a month for as long as I can remember.”

“It was just two weeks ago,” Corso continued, “that we were talking about the upcoming college football season, and the ‘Noles. Burt, better known as ‘buddy’ to his friends, loved FSU football and no matter how big a star he became, he never forgot his friends from the FSU football family. I will forever remember our conversations and the true friend that he was.”

Corso played cornerback at Florida State from 1953-57, and you could say that after his coaching career he, like Reynolds, entered the entertainment business with the reputation he has earned on the College Gameday set.

It would certainly have been interesting to be a fly on the wall when Reynolds and Corso lived together, but knowing they remained close until Reynolds’ death is sure to warm the heart of any college football fan.
