No team has a better chance to make the College Football Playoff this season than Alabama. At least according to ESPN’s Allstate Playoff Predictor.
The Crimson Tide, who are ranked No. 1 in the AP Top 25 poll, are in good position to reach the SEC Championship Game, as only one of their four remaining regular-season games is against a ranked opponent (No. 24 Auburn). Then, there’s a good chance they’ll have to play Florida in the SEC title game.
But Alabama is on a roll this season, starting 6-0, which is why the playoff predictor gives it a 90.5-percent chance of reaching the CFP this season. The Crimson Tide missed the playoff last season after reaching it each of the first five years of its existence.
Here are the chances for some of the top teams to reach the CFP and to win the national title per ESPN’s Allstate Playoff Predictor (SEC teams in bold):
Alabama — 90.5% to make playoff (39% to win national title)
Ohio State — 73.6% (27.2%)
Notre Dame — 46.4% (5.7%)
Clemson — 45% (10.6%)
Wisconsin — 40.6% (8.6%)
Oregon — 27.3% (2.6%)
BYU — 22.8% (1.4%)
Florida — 18.2% (2.7%)
Cincinnati — 10.3% (0.5%)
USC — 6.9% (0.3%)
Texas A&M — 5.9% (0.4%)
Georgia — 3.3% (0.4%)
Indiana — 3.3% (0.2%)
Northwestern — 2.2% (less than 0.1%)
Utah — 1.3% (less than 0.1%)
Oklahoma State — 1% (less than 0.1%)
Oklahoma — 0.6% (less than 0.1%)
