The coaching profession is a small world.

Falcons’ coach Dan Quinn is familiar with both Nick Saban and Kirby Smart having coached on staff with both. Remember, Quinn became Florida’s DC under Will Muschamp, and Muschamp was previously on staff with Saban, Smart and Quinn at the same time in Miami. Quinn’s rise (and success) in the NFL ranks has certainly been impressive.

Quinn caught some of the National Championship Game between Alabama and Georgia, and according to the AJC, Quinn is going to reach out to both coaches.

“Well, I’ll reach out to both coaches,” Quinn told the outlet. “I did see the overtime portion. I didn’t see the first half or much of the second half, but I did see the ending.”

The entire country saw the ending, too. Quinn knows the gut-punch feeling Smart has after leading and then losing football’s biggest game.

“It’s absolutely the life of a competitor,” Quinn said. “What a remarkable run by Alabama, and I think it really goes to show what good hands the Georgia program is (in) with Kirby.”

While the rest of the country may have been upset over an all-SEC final, the ratings certainly didn’t show that. Of course, most of that was dictated by Alabama’s comeback and then overtime, too. But Quinn thought it was “cool” to have two teams from the South in the championship game.

“Classic matchup, really good ball right in our backyard, so I thought man it was cool to have it here with teams that are from this area,” Quinn said.
