Florida true freshman receiver Antonio Callaway added yet another feat in the last game of his impressive debut season.

Callaway set the Gators’ single-season record for receiving yards by a true freshman on his first catch, a 26-yarder from quarterback Treon Harris in the first quarter. That gave him 629 yards for the season, surpassing Reidel Anthony’s 615 in 1994.

However, that’s just one of several impressive accomplishments for Callaway.

The 5-foot-11, 206-pounder from Miami entered Friday with 17.3 all-purpose yards per play, the best mark by a Gator freshman and the 4th-highest mark in UF history (min. 60 plays).

Callaway also entered today leading all FBS true freshmen in yards per catch with 20.1. The next-closest mark by a receiver is 17.1 by Clemson’s Deon Cain, who did not play in the Tigers’ semifinal win over Oklahoma and will not play in the national championship game against Alabama.

Callaway also put himself in the SEC Championship Game record books with his 85-yard punt return for a touchdown against Alabama. That’s the longest punt return, touchdown or not, in the title game, topping the 83-yard return by Mississippi State’s Kevin Prentiss in 1998.
