During the 2016 recruiting cycle, few receivers were as heavily recruited as Demetris Robertson. In the end, the Peach State native turned down offers from nearly every SEC program to head out west and play for Cal.

He had an impressive debut as a true freshman for the Bears in 2016, racking up 50 catches for 767 yards and seven touchdowns before missing the vast majority of the 2017 season due to injuries. Two seasons out west may prove to be all Robertson desires to experience as the Cal receiver announced his plans to leave the program on Thursday.

Robertson was a five-star prospect in the 2016 recruiting cycle, the No. 1 rated receiver and the No. 13 overall prospect according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Georgia and Alabama were among the U.S. Army All-American’s finalists coming out of high school, with Jeremy Pruitt serving as one of his primary recruiters for the Tide. It’s also worth noting that the coach that helped Cal land Robertson, receivers coach Jacob Peeler, now coaches the same position at Ole Miss.

Here’s the note Robertson shared on Twitter announcing his decision to leave Cal:

It will be interesting to see where Robertson ends up next but you can be sure several SEC coaching staffs will at the very least inquire about his status moving forward.
