Former Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams is having the best season of his young NFL career in 2024, and he emphasized that by recording the longest touchdown of his career with an 82-yard catch that went for a score against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.
Jared Goff launched a bomb downfield after Williams had appeared to beat a pair of Bears defenders, and the third-year receiver out of Alabama ran under the ball to run in a touchdown that extended the Detroit Lions’ lead to 20-0 early in the second quarter.
The reception broke Williams’ previous 70-yard mark for longest catch that he set earlier this season.
Overall, Williams came into Sunday’s action having recorded 42 catches for 747 yards this season, ranking second on the team in yardage. And with 143 yards and counting in this matchup, Williams has already broken his career-high for yardage in a game.
Williams has also rushed for 56 yards this year as a Swiff Army Knife-type of player for Dan Campbell & Co.
Williams notably had a rocky start to his career. He suffered a torn ACL while at Alabama and had to miss much of his rookie season as a result.
Then, Williams and a handful of other Lions players were suspended for six games to start the 2023 season due to violating the NFL’s gambling policy, as they placed wagers on college football teams inside the Lions’ facilities. Williams was also briefly suspended earlier this season for violating the league’s PED policies.
Now, he’s playing a major role for Detroit’s offense with the playoffs on the horizon.
