A popular topic of debate this offseason has been whether Auburn and Missouri should switch divisions. Based on his Monday press conference at SEC Media Days, Greg Sankey isn’t interested in pushing the issue forward.

When Sankey was asked about realignment, he had a quick response.

“It has not been an agenda item at a meeting,” Sankey said.

The discussion topic gained traction this spring after Pat Dye made the suggestion during a segment on “The Paul Finebaum Show.” The former Auburn coach pointed to geography as the primary reason for Auburn to be part of the SEC East and Missouri in the SEC West. The biggest hurdles stopping the potential switch are Alabama’s rivalries and the SEC schedule structure.

In the current eight conference-game schedule, teams play their six division rivals, a permanent cross-division rival and a rotating cross-division foe. If AU moved to the SEC East, Alabama would be unable to play both Auburn and Tennessee every year under the current schedule structure.

In May, Auburn AD Jay Jacobs said he planned to bring up a possible move at the SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, Fla. Missouri coach Barry Odom, however, said he wasn’t aware of any such meeting.

“I was not in a meeting where there was any discussion about movement of divisions,” Odom said per Auburn Undercover.

While Dye gave us a fun topic for the offseason, realignment doesn’t seem to be getting off the ground any time soon.
