As the SEC prepares to begin the men’s basketball conference tournament, the annual awards and all-conference teams are due out in a matter of days. ESPN analyst Jimmy Dykes has already come out with his top two awards from around the league.

On Saturday morning, Dykes said on “Marty and McGee” on the SEC Network that Alabama G Herb Jones was his pick for Player of the year. Dykes credited Alabama coach Nate Oats for “re-recruiting” Jones among other players to bolster the roster of this year’s team.

Dykes explained his pick of Jones.

“Because of everything he does for the best team in our this year has really boosted what Alabama’s been able to do quicker,” Dykes said.

Jones averages 27 minutes per game, with 10.9 points, and 6.1 rebounds per game.

Later on Saturday, he tweeted that Arkansas’ Moses Moody, following a 28-point effort in a win over Texas A&M, is his choice for Freshman of the Year. “Impacts winning in so many ways. Hogs are red hot headed to Nashville,” Dykes tweeted following the Hogs’ 11th straight win.

Moody averages 16.5 points per game, with 5.7 rebounds.
