Joel Klatt spent the Thursday edition of his show previewing and predicting the upcoming week of conference championship games. One of the games many people will have eyes on is the SEC Championship Game between Texas and Georgia.
These teams already battled back in October and the Bulldogs came out on top 30-15. The Bulldogs ended the regular season with a 10-2 record while the Longhorns ended with an 11-1 mark.
In Atlanta, Klatt thinks the Longhorns have the edge in this rematch.
“Trends in this one lead me to believe that Texas is going to win,” said the analyst. “I said this all along, I thought that these were the two best teams in the SEC when they played the first time.”
Since the first matchup between these teams, the Longhorns have gone 5-0. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, have gone 4-1 and most recently went to 8 overtimes to beat Georgia Tech.
“Ever since then (the first matchup), I have said, I think Texas will win the rematch,” explained Klatt. “I think they are a better football team. Texas is favored, and I think they cover.”
In the first matchup, turnovers were the story. The Longhorns turned the ball over 4 times, which is the most the team had in any game this season. Quinn Ewers struggled against the Georgia defense, throwing for just 211 yards.
In this game, the Longhorns will be looking for their first SEC title while the Bulldogs are looking for their first since 2022. These new rivals will kick off from Atlanta on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. ET.
