Kirk Herbstreit gave a tip of the proverbial cap to a current SEC coach, as well as the leader of a future SEC team, as he released his top-performing coaches from Week 6’s college football slate.

South Carolina’s Shane Beamer was among the coaches that received the nod from Herbstreit on Monday. On Saturday, the Gamecocks defeated Kentucky 24-14, beating a ranked opponent for the first time since 2020. It was also the Gamecocks’ first win in Lexington in a decade. South Carolina is now 4-2 and will next host Texas A&M, a program it’s never beaten in 8 tries.

As for the head coach of a soon-to-be SEC team, that’s obviously referring to Steve Sarkisian at Texas. The Longhorns had lost the last 4 Red River Showdowns to fellow future SEC entrant Oklahoma, as well as 10 of the last 13. With Quinn Ewers back for the first time since leaving the game vs. Alabama, they torched the Sooners 49-0 at the Cotton Bowl, their highest margin of victory in the series and the worst shutout loss in Oklahoma football history.
