There are 41 different bowl games this year, much to the dismay of some college football fans, who think that’s way too many.

However, Toledo coach Jason Candle isn’t among those calling for fewer bowls, as he believes it’s about the players getting rewarded for their hard work.

In the below interview with ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM, Candle shares a strong message for bowl haters, telling them to “watch some bad basketball” instead of complaining about bowls:

“I would tell anybody who, you know, is annoyed by more college football, don’t tell me you love it then, because if you don’t want to watch it, don’t watch it,” he said. “These kids, they lay it on the line, they put it out there for 12 calendar months and they go above and beyond. To have a bowl game is a reward for a great season.

“Really, where it is and who the opponent is, I don’t think that’s the message here. I would tell anyone who’s annoyed by there being too many, just don’t watch it — watch some bad basketball.”

Toledo will take on Appalachian State in the Dollar General Bowl on Dec. 23 in what should be an exciting matchup of two non-Power 5 foes. Check out the action (instead of some bad basketball) at 7 p.m. Eastern time on ESPN.
