Lane Kiffin has Florida Atlantic at 7-3 and 6-0 in Conference USA in his first season in Boca Raton, Fla.

With several openings around the country, and Kiffin’s coaching history, that has sparked discussion about him being interested in, or pursued by people, for bigger jobs. Kiffin took over for the Owls after serving as offensive coordinator for Nick Saban and Alabama from 2014-2016. He has previous collegiate head coaching experience at Tennessee and Southern Cal.

The Owls became bowl eligible two weeks ago after FAU finished 3-9 every season from 2014-2016 and had not won six games in a season since 2013. The Owls are also now bowl eligible for the first time since 2008.

Kiffin was a recent guest on ESPNU Radio on Sirius XM where he spoke candidly about his first season.

“You’re not going to get coach speak here. Like when every coach says I’m happy here, that I really am. It’s a very unique situation,” Kiffin said. “A, we have a great team. B, a ton of them come back. Almost the whole team comes back, and we love living here. There’s a family element here. My dad’s here. My brother’s our coordinator. Mom’s here, my brother’s four kids. And we’ve got a president that wants football to win. Came from Clemson, envisions this place being like Clemson somebody, so that’s a pretty good mix.”

It’s a situation worth watching as Kiffin will no doubt be mentioned for openings each season as long as he remains successful at FAU.
