Mel Tucker is the subject of an ongoing investigation by Michigan State University into allegations of sexual harassment, according to a report from ESPN.

The investigation against Tucker was opened months ago, ESPN’s Dan Murphy reported on Saturday, citing unnamed sources.

ESPN filed an open records request with the school on July 30 seeking documents related to any complaints that alleged Tucker — MSU’s fourth-year head football coach — had violated the university’s relationship violence and sexual misconduct policy. That request was denied by the school’s interim president, Teresa K. Woodruff.

Michigan State wrote in its denial to ESPN that the information was exempt from FOIA requests under state law because it would constitute “a clearly unwarranted invasion of an individual’s privacy.”

Murphy went on to report that ESPN has engaged a Michigan-based law firm to pursue potential litigation against what the outlet believes is a violation of the state’s open records law.

Tucker signed a contract extension in November of 2021 that was worth a reported $95 million over 10 years, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in the sport.
