With rumors swirling that Texas Tech could be interested in bringing back a former coach, Washington State coach Mike Leach reportedly denied the idea.

Leach told ESPN’s Joel Anderson that he isn’t interested in returning to Texas Tech, and he ripped the Red Raiders in the process.

“They didn’t pay me last time. And I’m happy here,” Leach told Anderson. “They haven’t paid me for 2009, and we won nine games that year. And they haven’t won nine games since.”

Leach coached at Texas Tech from 2000-09, going 84-43 over 10 seasons. The Red Raiders never won fewer than seven games in a season during that span, and they made a bowl game all 10 years.

In 2009, Leach was fired by Texas Tech amid an investigation for alleged inappropriate treatment of a player with a concussion. Later, Leach sued the school for wrongful termination and other claims, but many of them were dismissed by a judge under the grounds of sovereign immunity.

After the messy ending to Leach’s stint with the Red Raiders, he became the coach at Washington State in 2012. He is 48-40 over seven seasons with the Cougars, which includes going 10-2 this year.
