College football and basketball recruiting visits have been halted since March and that looks to continue until at least September following the latest release from the NCAA.

The Division I Council announced on Thursday that the current dead period for recruiting has been extended until Aug. 31. The NCAA plans to continue the situation moving forward and could push the dead period back even further if necessary.

What this means is a college prospects cannot take official or unofficial visits to college campuses until Aug. 31. It also means college coaches cannot visit recruits or their high schools during that period. Telephone and virtual communications between coaches and prospects are allowed, however.

Also, prospects can visit college campuses on their own, they just can’t meet with any coaches during visits to campus and they cannot be reimbursed for any money spent traveling to the campus.
