Paul Finebaum agrees with the College Football Playoff committee’s decision to put Washington ahead of Florida State in the latest rankings.

Finebaum said on ESPN’s “First Take” that Washington’s better resume, plus Jordan Travis’ season-ending injury, is enough evidence to put the Huskies above the Seminoles.

“I’m great with that, and it’s about time, and it’s not because of the Jordan Travis injury at Florida State, it’s the fact that Washington has finally started really clicking,” Finebaum said. “They had that up and down, remember they had that win over Oregon, but I think even though the committee said it has nothing to do with Jordan Travis, it could have played a role. Jordan Travis is a generational player, he’s helped bring Florida State back from the dead after 2 failed coaching moves. And he’s gone for the season, they go to Florida Saturday night, guys.”

Finebaum thinks that Florida State could still win the ACC Championship, but that doesn’t mean much to him. He believes if they want to make a statement, the Seminoles need to dominate in the game.

“They should win that game and then they have Louisville,” Finebaum said. “But they need to do more than win and I know people say if they win, they’re a champion of a Power 5 conference. So what. We’re talking about the weakest Power 5 conference in the ACC. Their wins are against LSU, a 3-loss team, Clemson, a 4-loss team. And then Louisville would be their best win, a 1-loss team that had a nasty loss to Pittsburgh. I’m still not buying it. Especially Mad Dog and Stephen A. we get to a situation where you have 1-loss Georgia team to Alabama, or 1-loss Alabama team having beat Georgia, Texas, you have a lot of variables here that could create a great deal of chaos.”

The final week of football and conference championship week should be telling as chaos unfolds. If Florida State loses to Louisville, it will undoubtedly be out of the Playoff. But things could get interesting if Alabama manages to beat Georgia, as the Tide would have a strong to get in over an undefeated Florida State team.

First, Florida State needs to handle business against Florida this week.
