Many of the nation’s top safeties in the 2015 recruiting class have already given their verbal commitments to various schools. With less than a month remaining before National Signing Day, here’s a breakdown of where the top 20 safeties are heading next season, and how many of them will be coming to the SEC.

Linebackers: Currently, eight of the top 20 safeties in the country are set to join SEC programs this offseason.

Uncommitted Targets: There are no uncommitted prospect remaining among the top 20 safeties.

TOP 20 SAFETIES

1. Derwin James, Florida State: The five-star prospect from Auburndale, Fla. enrolled at Florida State earlier this month and will participate in spring practice later this semester. He chose FSU over Auburn, Florida, Clemson and LSU, among others.

2. Deionte Thompson, Alabama: Thompson enrolled at Alabama earlier this month. The five-star prospect and No. 36 player in the class of 2015 was also considering Baylor, Florida State, Notre Dame and LSU.

3. Jamal Peters, Mississippi State: Peters has maintained his commitment to Mississippi State since July, but he has an official visit to LSU scheduled for Jan. 23. The four-star prospect is regarded as the No. 47 overall player in this year’s class.

4. Marvell Tell, Southern Cal: Tell committed to Southern Cal on Jan. 3. The No. 57 player in the class has also considered Texas A&M, Oregon and Arizona State.

5. Justin Dunning, Texas A&M: Dunning committed to Texas A&M in November and has an official visit to College Station scheduled for later this month. The four-star prospect also considered Arizona State, Baylor, Florida State and LSU.

6. Rashad Roundtree, Georgia: Roundtree committed to Georgia in November and has an official visit scheduled to Athens this weekend. The No. 123 player in the class has also considered Ohio State, Alabama, Auburn and Clemson.

7. Larry Pryor, Texas A&M: Pryor has been committed to Texas A&M since last January, long before the Aggies hired John Chavis as their new defensive coordinator. Pryor is scheduled to visit A&M this weekend.

8. Jaquan Johnson, Miami (Fla.): Johnson enrolled at Miami earlier this month and will participate in spring practice this semester. The four-star prospect also considered Florida, Cincinnati and Clemson.

9. Ronnie Harrison, Alabama: Harrison joins Thompson as early enrollees at Alabama, arriving in Tuscaloosa earlier this month. The four-star recruit also considered Georgia, Cincinnati and East Carolina.

10. Tyree Kinnel, Michigan: Kinnel has been committed to Michigan since August of 2013, and he has an official visit scheduled to meet Jim Harbaugh’s new coaching staff this weekend. He made an official visit to Notre Dame last month.

11. Will Sunderland, Oklahoma: Sunderland committed to Oklahoma in September, before Bob Stoops made sweeping changes to his coaching staff in the wake of a disappointing season. Sunderland made his official visit in September and has no more official visits scheduled.

12. Jordan Colbert, Auburn: The four-star All-American committed to Auburn last April. He has also considered Alabama, Clemson, Florida State and Georgia.

13. DeShon Elliott, Texas: Elliott committed to Texas last March and has an official visit scheduled in January. He has also considered TCU, Arkansas, Baylor and Colorado, among others.

14. Calvin Brewton, Florida State: Brewton is one of three safeties on this list committed to the Seminoles. He enrolled earlier this month, and had considered Notre Dame, Florida Atlantic and Cincinnati.

15. David Dowell, Kentucky: Dowell is among Kentucky’s most touted recruits, and he gave his commitment in October. The four-star prospect has also considered Boston College, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech and Illinois.

16. Kendrell McFadden, West Virginia: McFadden committed to WVU earlier this month, choosing the Mountaineers over schools like Auburn, Alabama, Ohio State, Cincinnati and Clemson.

17. Kahlil Haughton, Oklahoma: Haughton committed to the Sooners in December. The four-star prospect chose Oklahoma over Texas Tech, Baylor, Arkansas and Nebraska.

18. Kevin Henry, Oklahoma State: Henry committed to Oklahoma State in November, choosing the Cowboys over such schools as LSU, Miami, Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Monroe.

19. Ben Edwards, Stanford: Edwards is the only player on this list committed to a Pac 12 school as of Jan. 12. He committed to Stanford in late December, choosing the Cardinal over North Carolina and Notre Dame.

20. A.J. Westbrook, Florida State: Westbrook committed to FSU in May and is scheduled to make his official visit to Tallahassee this weekend. He chose the Seminoles over Bowling Green, Duke, Cincinnati and Florida International, among others.
