The Dixie State football family is in mourning on Saturday, as a star player passed away unexpectedly.

Per a report from The Spectrum, LB Abraham Reinhardt died on Friday at a local medical facility.

The university, located in St. Georgia, Utah, issued a statement about the death of Reinhardt:

“We are all incredibly saddened and shocked by Abraham’s passing. Our hearts are broken,” DSU Director of Athletics Jason Boothe said in a statement. “He always represented Dixie State University and our football program exceptionally well, but more importantly, he was an amazing young man.”

Per a comment on Reddit from what appears to be one of Reinhardt’s former coaches, it seems he suffered a seizure and died after falling into a coma.

The university did not release an official cause of death in its release.

Reinhardt recorded a team-high 79 tackles (13.5 for a loss) last season while earning All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors.
