Maryland’s football program has faced extreme scrutiny in the months following offensive lineman Jordan McNair’s death, and a lengthy investigation into alleged abuses finally came to an end Thursday.

According to a report from ESPN, the committee looking into the Terrapins’ program discovered “problems” under coach D.J. Durkin but did not determine that he fostered a “toxic culture,” as was alleged by many close to the team. Many of the instances of abuse were linked to former strength and conditioning coach Rick Court, who resigned in August, though the committee ruled that Durkin is culpable for some of Court’s “unacceptable behavior.”

On June 13, McNair died of heatstroke he suffered during a team workout. Reporting into the circumstances surrounding his death shed light on the culture at Maryland, which led to the investigation that concluded Thursday.

The commission didn’t recommend personnel changes, according to the report, and it’s unclear if Durkin will return from administrative leave.
