The SEC Network will have to start searching for a new main broadcaster as the AP is reporting that Brent Musburger will retire Jan. 31. The 77-year-old Musburger has been calling games since the early 1970s and has worked for CBS, ABC, ESPN and the SEC Network during his distinguished career.

According to the AP, with his broadcasting career behind him, Musburger plans to open a sports book in Las Vegas with his family. His last game will be the Kentucky-Georgia basketball game in Rupp Arena.

“What a wonderful journey I have traveled with CBS and the Disney company,” Musburger said via statement. “A love of sports allows me to live a life of endless pleasure. And make no mistake, I will miss the arenas and stadiums dearly. Most of all, I will miss the folks I have met along the trail.”

Musburger has called seven college football national championship games and became the SEC Network’s lead broadcaster in 2014. Known for his on-air flirtation with Katherine Webb and Florida State coeds, college football just won’t be the same without Musburger.
