One of two oak trees planted in Toomer’s Corner in February during a massive celebration to try and erase the stain of Harvey Updyke’s poisoning in 2010 must be replaced according to an Auburn University spokeswoman.

The Auburn Plainsman reported Tuesday the massive oak on Magnolia Avenue didn’t take to the soil and suffered ‘transplant shock’ after being moved to Alabama from South Carolina. Its twin on College Avenue is ‘noticeably healthier’ and took to its roots, according to the newspaper.

It will be replaced in July.
