The SEC has announced hefty fines for both Ole Miss and LSU for fan-related behavior in Week 11.
Ole Miss has been fined a total of $350,000 after fans rushed the field on Saturday night. The Rebels will pay a fine of $250,000 for the field-storming plus an additional $100,000 penalty because fans entered the playing field before the conclusion of the game.
The league says Ole Miss is also a multi-time offender of this policy, as fans also rushed the field after its win over LSU last season.
Speaking of LSU, the Tigers have been fined $250,000 for throwing debris on the field in protest of a call in their 42-13 loss to Alabama on Saturday night. The SEC’s announcement also said LSU will be required to use all available resources to identify fans who threw debris onto the playing field.
The SEC also said it reserves the right to suspend alcohol sales at LSU games at a later time if necessary.
LSU is just the latest college football program to throw trash on the field in protest of a call. The trend has been ongoing for weeks following a high-profile incident in the Georgia-Texas game last month in-which a call was overturned in Texas’s favor after UT students threw trash on the field in protest of the officiating.
Per SEC policy, Ole Miss’s fine will be paid directly to Georgia. LSU’s fine will be paid out to the SEC’s post-graduate scholarship program, the league announced.
