As it stands, it seems very likely that 9 or 10 SEC teams will crack 6 wins this season.

Nine have clinched a bowl berth, already sitting at 6 wins on the season after Week 11. Auburn and Texas A&M made it official Saturday.

As far as the field is concerned, there are 2 relevant questions remaining: Can South Carolina find a backdoor route to 6 wins and could Mississippi State crack the field as a replacement team with a 5-7 record?

Of course, the Bulldogs still have a chance at 6 wins outright. They finish the year against Southern Miss before facing Ole Miss at home. But even the intensity of a rivalry game will make winning the Egg Bowl a tough ask for this Bulldogs squad, which can best be described as “tired” following a blowout loss to Texas A&M.

For now, the assumption is that neither will go bowling this season. South Carolina’s blowout win over Vanderbilt just doesn’t move the needle, and downing Kentucky and Clemson back-to-back weeks is quite the ask.

A brief mention of Florida, which would need a win over either Mizzou or Florida State to clinch eligibility. The Gators have a lower APR score than Mississippi State and beating either of the above seems unlikely. making their situation grim. We’ll see.

Shifting gears. As you’ll see, there’s been a considerable amount of movement in the projections because of Ole Miss’ loss to Georgia. I understand the Dawgs are the No. 2 team in the country, but Mizzou’s win over Tennessee jumps the Tigers over the Rebels in the standings.

I said last week the Rebels would stay no matter what, but we’re allowed to be flat-out wrong sometimes, right? Not to mention, Ole Miss did not look like a top-10 team Saturday night.

But there’s a chance Eli Drinkwitz and Co. will be a top 10 team in Tuesday’s Playoff rankings. For that reason, paired with an easy remaining schedule, I have Mizzou snagging a NY6 bid over Ole Miss with the latter in the Citrus Bowl.

LSU fans will see their excellent win over Florida and wonder why they dropped a peg from the Citrus to the ReliaQuest Bowl from Week 10 to Week 11. As explained above, there simply aren’t enough seats at the table. The Rebels beat the Tigers earlier in the year and should have less losses by the end of the regular season. Brand is important, but the Rebels have the better case.

Tennessee, Texas A&M, Auburn and Kentucky all stayed put with some different opponents after expected weekends.

Until next week, college football.
