That’s it.

That’s a wrap on the 2021 college football regular season. It’s a really sad thing, but at least we got 13 weeks of fun, unpredictable college football action.

Rivalry Week provided some big-time, Playoff-shifting upsets. It also saw some top teams narrowly avoid bad losses.

This is the greatest sport in the history of the world, and it’s sad that the full weekends of action are now over. Now we get conference championship weekend. Then, it’s bowl season. Yes, there are a ton of bowl games, but it’s so much fun to have near-constant college football on our televisions from mid-December to New Year’s Day.

As we end the regular season, here’s a look at how each SEC team stacks up in our weekly power rankings:

14. Vanderbilt (2-10 overall, 0-8 in SEC)

Previous ranking: 14
This week: 45-21 L to Tennessee

Another winless year in the SEC for this squad after going 0-9 in the pandemic-plagued 2020 season. This team needs a complete overhaul. This is not an indictment of coach Clark Lea in any way. He’s in Year 1. The Commodores showed some fight in nonconference action. But Vanderbilt needs to improve drastically in every area. The Commodores face an uphill battle to avoid 0-8 in SEC play again next year.

13. Florida (6-6, 2-6)

Previous ranking: 13
This week: 24-21 W over Florida State

Yes, Florida won, but a late comeback by FSU is certainly cause for concern. Ultimately, we didn’t really learn anything new about this team this week. This is still a team struggling mightily with consistency, particularly at the quarterback position. The only drama left in this season is who will replace Dan Mullen as head coach. That decision could potentially come as soon as Sunday.

12. South Carolina (6-6, 3-5)

Previous ranking: 10
This week: 30-0 L to No. 23 Clemson

Many predicted this Gamecocks squad had what it took to upset Clemson in this fierce rivalry game. Nope. Instead, Shane Beamer’s crew was shut out by its biggest rival for the first time since 1989. Brutal end to a solid first regular season under Beamer. Now, the Gamecocks will await their bowl destination. Don’t underestimate the value of another couple of weeks of practice for this team.

11. LSU (6-6, 3-5)

Previous ranking: 12
This week: 27-24 W over No. 15 Texas A&M

The Tigers fought hard in coach Ed Orgeron’s last game at the helm of the program (he announced after the game he wouldn’t coach in the bowl game), and what a finale it was! The Tigers stormed back to take down a ranked Texas A&M squad. Kudos to this team for continuing to fight hard for its outgoing coach and sending the 2019 national champion out a winner.

10. Mizzou (6-6, 3-5)

Previous ranking: 9
This week: 34-17 L to No. 25 Arkansas

Eli Drinkwitz really needs to figure out this quarterback situation. Connor Bazelak is not 100% healthy. That’s clear to see. It’s also clear it is hurting the team. The defense has taken a major step forward in recent weeks. The offense (minus the incredible Tyler Badie) has taken a step back. We’ll see if Bazelak can heal up in time for the bowl game.

9. Auburn (6-6, 3-5)

Previous ranking: 11
This week: 24-22 L (4OT) to No. 3 Alabama

Yes, this was a hard-fought battle against the rival Crimson Tide, but you don’t get any credit for almost beating a Nick Saban team. Instead, Auburn’s losing streak continues and now the Tigers enter bowl season with a bad taste in their mouths. I bumped them up a couple of spots here, but this team has a lot of work to do if it is going to end the year with a bowl trophy.

8. Mississippi State (7-5, 4-4)

Previous ranking: 7
This week: 31-21 L to No. 9 Ole Miss

This team was just too inconsistent to finish in the top half of the SEC power rankings this regular season. At times, the Bulldogs looked like a top-5 SEC team. At times, they looked like a bottom-5 team. The truth? Probably somewhere in the middle. So we’ll put them at No. 8 as we enter bowl season.

7. Texas A&M (8-4, 4-4)

Previous ranking: 4
This week: 27-24 L to LSU

Another late-November loss for the Aggies puts a real damper on this regular season. The difference between an 8-4 regular season and a 9-3 regular season is monumental in College Station. Now, the Aggies’ bowl slot is going to take a hit, and that’s not going to sit well with the fan base. What a disappointing loss in Baton Rouge.

6. Kentucky (9-3, 5-3)

Previous ranking: 8
This week: 52-21 W over Louisville

Louisville was a 3-point favorite. Usually, the folks in Vegas are spot on when it comes to game lines. But, every now and then, they hand out some free money. There was no way the Wildcats were losing this game. What a powerful performance from Mark Stoops’ squad. Now, the Wildcats have a chance to go to a great bowl game and pick up win No. 10. He’s doing an incredible job in Lexington. Will he still be the head coach at Kentucky in 2022, though?

5. Tennessee (7-5, 4-4)

Previous ranking: 6
This week: 45-21 W over Vanderbilt

This is a very dangerous team. If the Vols can hold on to Josh Heupel through this coaching carousel season, there’s plenty to build on moving forward. Tennessee should play a decent bowl opponent. Win that game, pick up victory No. 8 on the season and carry some momentum into the offseason. This is definitely a program on the rise!

4. Arkansas (8-4, 4-4)

Previous ranking: 5
This week: 34-17 W over Mizzou

What a turnaround by coach Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks. Dealing with the nation’s toughest schedule, the Hogs had some struggles along the way, but they finished with 8 wins and in 3rd place in the brutal SEC West. This was an incredible year in Fayetteville, and a solid bowl game should be on deck.

3. Ole Miss (10-2, 6-2)

Previous ranking: 3
This week: 31-21 W over Mississippi State

The Rebels have put together a 10-win regular season for the first time. That’s an absolutely stunning performance from Lane Kiffin in his second year. Will he still be around for Year 3? He’s seemingly building something special in Oxford. A New Year’s 6 bowl game is likely on deck for this squad.

2. Alabama (11-1, 7-1)

Previous ranking: 2
This week: 24-22 W (4OT) over Auburn

A team with some glaring issues? Yes. A team that has found ways to win almost every close game it has been in? Also yes. No, this did not look like a team that can beat Georgia next week, but the Tide are still firmly in the conversation for the No. 2 team in the country. After all, who else is going to claim that spot? The only teams in the mix for No. 2 in the next CFP rankings are Michigan, Cincinnati and Alabama. Next week’s SEC title game in Atlanta is sure to be an intense atmosphere.

1. Georgia (12-0, 8-0)

Previous ranking: 1
This week: 45-0 W over Georgia Tech

That’ll do it. A perfect regular season for the Dawgs. Georgia absolutely dominated the rest of college football this year. It’s unfair to even put a team at No. 2 in the rankings, because no one should be that close to Georgia. Next up is a date with Alabama in Atlanta with an SEC title on the line. Can Kirby Smart finally pick up his first win over mentor Nick Saban? That should be a fun game on Saturday!
