The debut of the ESPN 300 was revealed Thursday and surprisingly, the SEC doesn’t have a commitment from a player listed inside the Top 17 prospects. While it’s a little early to be getting worked up over that fact, case in point: Alabama is barely clinging on as a Top 25 class rankings at this time according to ESPN, the league has some work to do between now and National Signing Day to climb up the recruiting rankings.

According to ESPN’s team rankings, LSU has the highest ranked class in the SEC at No. 5, with Texas A&M at No. 13, Auburn at No. 14, Florida at No. 17, Tennessee at No. 19, Arkansas at No. 20, Kentucky at No. 22 and Alabama closing out the Top 25. While those rankings may seem out of whack right now, Tom Luginbill, ESPN’s head of college football recruiting, was a guest on the Paul Finebaum Show Thursday and explained that the rankings are mostly based on quantity at this time, not quality. Luginbill predicts the rankings will begin to adjust once fall arrives.
