The Auburn Tigers absolutely demolished the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday, earning a lopsided 40-17 home victory.

Sitting at No. 10 in the current College Football Playoff rankings, Auburn now has one of the best wins of the year. However, the Tigers also have two losses, while the Bulldogs only have one.

So, that begs the question, should the Tigers jump the Bulldogs in the CFP rankings?

Coach Gus Malzahn’s crew will certainly jump in the rankings, especially since No. 9 Washington lost, either No. 3 Notre Dame or No. 7 Miami and either No. 5 Oklahoma or No. 6 TCU will lose in Saturday night games.

However, even with the dominating win over the Bulldogs, the CFP committee likely won’t drop Georgia very far. Just look to last year’s Clemson team for a prime example of what will likely happen to the Bulldogs.

After losing to Pitt while ranked No. 3 last year, Clemson only fell to No. 5, and after another team lost, climbed back into the top four the very next week.

Therefore, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see Georgia stay in the top four this week, as a road loss to a top-10 team (even though it was a blowout) isn’t exactly an indefensible loss.

However, the Tigers will likely move up to No. 6 or No. 7, so they’ll be breathing down Georgia’s neck as they try to knock off Alabama in two weeks to earn a rematch against the Dawgs in the SEC Championship Game.

Whatever happens next in the SEC, Auburn’s big win on Saturday certainly made things a lot more interesting.
