The SEC football season is almost here. It is finally game week in the conference, with all 14 teams taking the field on Saturday.
USA Today has shared postseason projections for 8 SEC teams. Erick Smith has Alabama back in the College Football Playoff and advancing to the national championship game with a chance for revenge against a Big Ten foe.
Outside of the CFP, Smith has a trio of SEC teams occupying at-large spots in New Year’s Six bowl (Cotton, Orange and Peach). The four other conference teams are projected to make the Citrus Bowl, Music City Bowl, Outback Bowl and Texas Bowl.
It doesn’t necessarily Smith sees the 6 other SEC teams as home for the holidays. He notes, “More games will be added when there is more certainty to the bowl schedule.”
Here are the bowl projections heading into the first week of the SEC season:

- Sugar Bowl vs. Clemson (CFP semifinal)
- CFP title game vs. Ohio State
Auburn
- Outback Bowl vs. Minnesota
