It would appear Florida Atlantic has hired a more mature Lane Kiffin.

During his first stint as a college head coach at Tennessee, Kiffin famously accused Florida head coach Urban Meyer of cheating in recruiting – when in fact Meyer was not doing so. However, in a bit of irony, it was Kiffin’s Tennessee program that was later found to have been cutting corners in recruiting.

While speaking at his introductory press conference with FAU Tuesday, Kiffin poked fun of his previous bravado and pledged not to make the same mistakes this time around, “I’m not concerned with sending a message to the rest of (Conference USA),” Kiffin said.

FAU’s new head coach also expressed regret in making his comments regarding Meyer’s Florida program:

Kiffin is saying all the right things now, but the fact FAU was the only head coaching job he could land after three highly successful seasons in Tuscaloosa prove he has a long way to go in terms of rehabbing his image. Perhaps coaching out of the national spotlight and working his way up the latter will prove to be the best thing yet for the 41-year-old coach.
