You don’t want to put all of LSU’s offensive problems at the feet of Brandon Harris, but it’s hard not to at this point.

Making his first start at quarterback for the Tigers, Purdue transfer Danny Etling was an impressive 19-of-30 passing for 215 yards with 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions in a 23-20 victory Saturday over Mississippi State.

It’s safe to assume that the page has officially been turned from Harris to Etling. Harris, long on talent but short with development, simply hasn’t shown enough improvement for the Bayou Bengals. Finally getting some help from the passing game, Leonard Fournette ran for 147 yards and 2 TDs on 28 carries.

Even though Louisiana State lost its season opener in “neutral site” Green Bay, Wisconsin was not an SEC opponent. Perhaps making the change from Etling to Harris means coach Les Miles and Co. are again contenders in the West.
