At least one Vols player is confident heading into Saturday’s matchup.

Tennessee is getting set to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks this weekend, and Vols WR Tyler Byrd took the time Thursday to get in a little trash talk ahead of the game.

Byrd took a shot at a recent video from Gamecocks Football that featured DB Rashad Fenton. The video referred to the South Carolina defender as “Fenton Island” for his strong play this season. Byrd, unimpressed, took to Twitter and claimed that the island does not exist.

At least Byrd is confident, but it is worth noting he has just two catches for 21 yards and a touchdown on the season. The Volunteers offense has also been stagnant for much of the year with the team sitting at 0-2 in SEC play.

Here is Byrd’s tweet:

Byrd also provided a follow-up tweet in case there was any confusion about the reference:

Fenton has performed well this season with the Gamecocks. The junior has 23 total tackles, including 22 solo stops, and three pass breakups in the first five games. He is still looking for his first interception this season, and he would no doubt enjoying getting the first against Tennessee following Byrd’s comments.

Head coach Butch Jones did announce a change at QB for the game Saturday, and it is possible the move will provide a spark the offense is looking for. Still, it’s never a good idea to provide bulletin board material for your opponent before a hard-fought game.

Saturday’s kickoff is set for 12 pm EST on ESPN.
