Six SEC teams landed on ESPN writer Mark Schlabach’s “Way-Too-Early Top 25” back in May, with reigning national champion Alabama serving as the preseason No. 1 favorite. LSU (No. 6), Tennessee (No. 11), Georgia (No. 13), Ole Miss (No. 14), and Texas A&M (No. 21) also made the cut.
Schlabach is an outstanding writer and knows his stuff, but realistically, he’s going to be wrong about a lot. That’s just how things work in college football — it’s predictably unpredictable.
So which teams on his list should we be most skeptical about? ESPN’s panel of SEC bloggers debated the subject on Wednesday morning, and while the results are a bit mixed, most seem to be very compliant when it comes to Georgia and Texas A&M.
Edward Aschoff: LSU
David Ching: Georgia
Sam Khan Jr.: Texas A&M
Greg Ostendorf: Texas A&M
Alex Scarborough: Georgia
