Will Muschamp’s South Carolina program is recruiting at such a high level at the moment that prospects are willing to accept walk-on roles before their high school careers are even finished.

That’s the case with Chuck Strickland at least, as the in-state offensive lineman announced he will play his college football in Columbia on Monday. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Duncan native plays for Byrnes High School. Not long after landing a walk-on offer by Muschamp, Strickland decided to become a Gamecock.

“First of all, I would like to thank God for giving me an opportunity to play football at the next level! I would also like to thank my parents for being beside me with every step that I have taken, and for the endless love and support! Also want to thank my whole family for supporting me as well! I want to also thank all the people that have believed in me! Would also like to thank my high school coaches, teammates, and friends for helping me get better on this journey! With that being said, I am going to spend my next four years at the University of South Carolina #SpursUp”

Strickland is a 2020 prospect with one season of high school football remaining at Byrnes High School, where he plays center and offensive tackle.
