South Carolina’s Shane Beamer is one of four new SEC head coaches entering the 2021 season. The South Carolina job is Beamer’s first as a head coach. Current LSU head coach Ed Orgeron knows what it is like to get your start as a head coach in the SEC.

Orgeron made his debut as a head coach at Ole Miss in 2005. On Monday, Orgeron shared that he is excited for Beamer and wishes the new head Gamecock well.

“I’m excited for him. I think he’ll do a great job,” Orgeron said.

Orgeron recalled being a Tennessee assistant on Lane Kiffin’s staff and recruiting in the Palmetto State.

“When I was at Knoxville, I thought that…you go to South Carolina, there’s a tremendous amount of talent in South Carolina, North Carolina. I think he’s going to do a tremendous job. He’s a great coach. I wish him the very best.”

It is fitting that Orgeron mentioned talent when asked about Beamer. The Gamecocks have turned some heads recently with a productive summer on the recruiting trail. South Carolina currently has 15 commitments for 2022. The class is currently dominated, however, by players from Georgia (5) and Florida (4). We’ll see if Beamer turns to more of the Carolina talent Orgeron referenced for future classes.
