Former South Carolina QB Jake Bentley has a new college football home, and it’s far from where has played on the East Coast for the past 3 seasons.

Bentley announced on his Twitter account that he will be on his way to the PAC 12 next season, playing for Utah under head coach Kyle Whittingham.

The Opelika, Alabama, native was thrown into the fire as a true freshman at South Carolina and performed well, throwing for 1,420 yards and 9 touchdowns through 7 games in the 2016 season.

Bentley went on to compile over 7,500 yards and 55 touchdowns in 3 seasons at South Carolina, before suffering a foot injury that ended his senior campaign in the opener of the 2019 season against North Carolina.

Freshman Ryan Hilinksi took control of the South Carolina offense in the wake of Bentley’s injury, and threw for over 2,000 yards, 11 touchdowns and 5 interceptions, helping the Gamecocks to some record-breaking performances along the way.

After the conclusion of the regular season, in which South Carolina sputtered to a 4-8 record, Bentley announced he would be transferring schools for his final year of eligibility.

As one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the transfer portal, Bentley finds himself landing at a team that went 11-2, and was in the College Football Playoff discussion until falling to Oregon in the Pac-12 title game. Bentley will replace outgoing senior Tyler Huntley for the Utes.
