If you missed the big news out of Columbia on Thursday, freshman running back MarShawn Lloyd has been ruled out for the season after suffering a season-ending injury to his ACL.

Lloyd was projected to start for the Gamecocks after being rated as a top 50 overall prospect in the 2020 recruiting cycle and flashing early during his brief time practicing in the spring and again during South Carolina’s current training camp.

Following the news of Lloyd’s injury, Gamecock offensive coordinator Mike Bobo met with the media and share his thoughts on losing his projected starting running back.

“It’s devastating for the young man. What an amazing young man. Since he’s been here. He’s been nothing but all in,” Bobo said. “He is, you know, when I got here we recruited the young man and, watching this tape I’m like, ‘This guy’s special.’ I got a chance to meet him and meet his mom and meet his sisters, and just a remarkable young man. He’s not about anything, he wasn’t about recruiting, he was about coming here this was the place for him and he wanted to help, South Carolina be successful on and off the field. I still think he’ll have that impact.

“It’s a tough time. I haven’t had a chance to visit with him I know Coach Kitchens has, I know some of our players have talked to him that have been through injuries. I’ve coached you know a long time and had lots of guys that had been through injuries and have come back and come back even stronger. It’s hard for a young man to see that right now, But I know MarShawn is the type of guy this is going to be able to get through that. He’s obviously got his family his home, but he’s got his family here. As far as football, Coach said it today, you know, man down, next man is up.”
