Routed by the Texas A&M Aggies, 48-3, on November 7, the South Carolina Gamecocks dropped their second-straight game and fell to 2-4.

Managing just 150 yards of total offense in the defeat, fifth-year head coach Will Muschamp said Sunday there is an open competition at the quarterback position.

“We need a spark,” Muschamp said. “We need to change some things up. That’s a position that can certainly change some things up.

“All three of those guys will have an opportunity to play this weekend,” Muschamp said. “Whoever practices the best, most productive person who is going to help us win football games, will have that opportunity.”

Redshirt senior Collin Hill, a Colorado State Rams graduate transfer, has started each of South Carolina’s games this season, completing 104-of-177 passes (58.8 percent) for 1,142 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions.

Sophomore Ryan Hilinski, who started the Gamecocks’ final 11 games in 2019, saw his first action of the year in the Texas A&M loss, and highly touted freshman Luke Doty received snaps, too.

The younger brother of late Washington State Cougars signal-caller Tyler Hilinski, the Orange, California native connected on four-of-six attempts for 34 yards, while Doty misfired on his only pass but did contribute seven yards on two rushes.

While the coaching staff will make the decision on the starter throughout the week, South Carolina will head to Oxford to battle the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on the SEC Network.
