Report: Former South Carolina WR Damiere Byrd finds new NFL home after career year
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Former South Carolina WR Damiere Byrd has carved out quite a career for himself after going undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft.
He spent the 2015-18 seasons with the Carolina Panthers. Then, he signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2019 and the New England Patriots in 2020.
Last season, he put up career highs with 47 receptions for 604 yards for the Patriots. He also had 1 touchdown grab.
Now, he’s on the move again. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Byrd is signing a 1-year deal with the Chicago Bears:
The #Bears are signing WR Damiere Byrd to a one-year deal, source says. Coming off career highs with 47 catches and 604 yards with the #Patriots this past season.

The Bears just drafted Ohio State QB Justin Fields with the No. 11 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, so Byrd could end up being a big target for him.
We’ll see if Byrd has a season good enough to warrant bringing him back to the Windy City for the 2022 campaign.
