Report: South Carolina names new starting QB after Jake Bentley suffers injury

Published:
The South Carolina Gamecocks suffered a disappointing loss to kick off their 2019 campaign, as they fell 24-20 to North Carolina in Charlotte.
Now, the news gets even worse, as it has been reported that starting QB Jake Bentley has suffered a broken foot and will be out for at least 6 weeks.
Per Mike Uva of WACH FOX, freshman Ryan Hilinski will be the starter moving forward:
Breaking: Ryan Hilinski has been informed from the USC coaching staff that he will start this week at QB for the Gamecocks and moving forward, per source. One source told me Bentley is expected to be out at least 6 weeks with a broken foot but it could be longer. @wachfox

That’s bad news for the Gamecocks, obviously, as Bentley has been the team’s starter for a long time. Hilinski is highly regarded in Columbia, but he’s a true freshman.
Hilinski will get a chance to ease into his starting job, as the Gamecocks host Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon.
