One day after South Carolina agreed to terms with Oklahoma Sooners associate head coach/tight ends coach Shane Beamer to assume the reins in 2021, some more coaching staff news came out on Sunday.

First reported by Mika Uva of WACH FOX in Columbia, defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson will not return to the Gamecocks next season.

Playing wide receiver and defensive back for Tommy Tuberville’s Auburn Tigers from 1999-2002, Robinson has extensive ties to the Southeastern Conference.

Following two seasons on National Football League rosters, he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with Auburn in 2006.

After coaching defensive backs at three different schools – Western Kentucky, Southern Mississippi, and Texas Tech – from 2008-10, he returned to the SEC in 2011 on Will Muschamp’s staff with the Florida Gators.

When Muschamp accepted the role as Auburn’s defensive coordinator in 2015, Robinson followed, serving as the defensive backs coach, and subsequently joined him in Columbia.

Standing at 2-8, South Carolina’s defense currently ranks 101st among Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) programs, surrendering 451.5 yards per game.

The Gamecocks have scheduled a press conference Monday to formally introduce Beamer as the 36th head coach in program history.
