Shane Beamer and South Carolina will be without offensive line coach Greg Adkins for a period of time after the coach said he’s dealing with a “minor medical issue.”
“He’s in great spirits,” Beamer said after the Gamecocks beat SC State. “I don’t think it’s going to be long-term.”
Offensive analyst Lonnie Teasley will step into the position for the time being.
Beamer on Greg Adkins: He’s fine. It’s just a minor medical issue. He’s in great spirits. I don’t think it’s going to be long-term.

Adkins previously missed last year’s game against Auburn due to what head coach Shane Beamer called a “health scare.” No more details were given at the time.
“He’s fine, just a minor medical issue,” Beamer said, per The State. “I talked to him yesterday. He’s in great spirits. Not much more to share. Medical condition that he’s taking care of that I don’t think is going to be long term. I talked to him yesterday afternoon and he told me he felt like he’d be back really. really soon.”
Adkins is in his second year on staff at South Carolina following three years at Marshall — his alma mater. He and Beamer previously overlapped on Phil Fulmer’s staff at Tennessee in the early 2000s, when Beamer was a graduate assistant for the Volunteers.
