Shane Beamer added himself to South Carolina’s injury list this week as the Gamecocks coach, who is known to be emotional after wins and losses, revealed Tuesday that he broke a bone in his foot.

“It was after the game, and certainly that was a gut wrenching and emotional loss,” Beamer said. “I was frustrated and I kicked something I shouldn’t have kicked. I thought I was OK, and then the adrenaline of the game wore off.”

The first sign of the injury came when Beamer limped into his weekly press conference on Tuesday, and lamented that it was in frustration from the 41-39 home loss to Florida.

Beamer revealed other details, such as Beamer he was not in a walking boot, or on crutches and surgery isn’t expected. The coach said USC Athletics Director Ray Tanner “died laughing” when he told him.

The Gamecocks fell to 2-4 and play Missouri this week, and Beamer expects to be there to coach. Beamer also said the incident came in front of his family, and he doesn’t condone it.

“Before anyone starts the narrative like the head football coach is frustrated and lost his poise, no, I care,” Beamer said. “I care about these kids. And I was really upset on Saturday night because I didn’t do enough to help them get over the hump and win the football game. It hurts like you know what, but I’ve got to show toughness and fight through it. It’s been one of those years.”
