Coleman was the former offensive coordinator of Murray State and making a stop at Tennessee Tech as pass-game coordinator in 2017. At Murray State, Coleman helped quarterback Drew Anderson to the NFL, where he would go on to play for the Arizona Cardinals.
Coleman had spent 2 years in Columbia before accepting the job under Dilfer.
